Huron Quad

Quad wet AWESOME! We could have been 3-0, but Aberdeen Central was just a little too much on this day. We have been as close to beating them as ever. #2 doubs, Haley and Haylee, played a great match. They were up the whole match, but dropped a few at the end. They will get them next time. Buse and Thomas had our only wins in singles, which kept them UNDEFEATED in the ESD Confrence. Aberdeen had their whole team back that placed #4 at state last year and #1 in ESD. I still believe that we have a better tournament team than they do.
Mitchell was, as always, a spectacular win for us. We beat them 7-2 and took 2 of the matches in tie-breakers. Buse didn't play her best match, but figured it out in the tie-break beating Hegg 7-2. Naasz OWNED Courtney wells 8-0. She looked awesome! Mutschelknaus beat an undefeated senior, Kayla White. That match was a close tiebreak, and Hanna came out on top 7-5.
We played great against Huron. There is a lot to learn when we play a team that is rebuilding. So, the girls kept their heads up, made some mistakes, but learned from them and are stronger players now!
I was very happy with the weekend. We have a great week of tennis coming up. Tuesday we play at SF Washington and Friday/Saturday we host our invite. Come out and join the fun!
*Keep your thoughts and prayers with the Jacobson family (one of my 2nd grade students), as they lost a loving wife and mother to cancer over the weekend.

SF O'Gorman
We lost to O'Gorman 9-0, but the girls really played great tennis. A couple high lights came from 3 singles and 3 doubles.
Marso and Mutschelknaus played a rough first set, but came back in the second and had a few set points. The hustled to EVERY ball and did not give up. When you can get coach Barnes to watch a whole set of one of your matches, you've done something right! Great work ladies.
Rubin also had a great night at 3 singles. She ended up losing the 2nd set in a tiebreak 7-5. She played great tennis, getting nearly every ball back and making Czarnecki hit a winner. Haley did not make many unforced errors, which will keep her in the hunt for a top place in the state.
The other girls played great as well. Our mental toughness was strong all night. We hustled to every ball, and if you don't believe me, just look at the skid-marks on the #1 court. Hahaha!
Team Captains were named last night in Rubin and Naasz! They will be great leaders. We have an awesome team this year, and I would call all of them a Captain if I could!

RC Invite - 7/12
The Rapid Invite went really well. We again, started off tentative, losing some first round matches because we were more worried about the score than having a great time. We were right in the mix, and could have taken 4th if our first round went a little better.
Buse and Naasz did have a great 1st round win over Wyoming State Champs.
Haylee Thomas improved the most of any girl out their this weekend. She really worked on her footwork, and because of this, ended up flying through the consolation bracket. She played great tennis and will hopefully grow more every day she plays, now that she is anticipating better. The sky will be the limit for her at 5 singles.
Here is a run-down of places:
Buse - 7th
Naasz - 4th
Rubin - 7th
Mutschelknaus - Consol Champ
Thomas - Consol Champ
Spanton - 6th
Buse/Naasz - 4th
Thomas/Rubin - 6th
Mutschelknaus/Makenzie Marso - 6th
We had a great JV tournament. They did not do team scores for JV, but we placed very well.
Marso - 1st
Sadler - 1st
Baltzer - Consol Champ
Rolf - 2nd
Valentien - 4th
Musch - 3rd
Spanton/Baltzer - 2nd
Sadler/Rolf - 3rd
Valentien/Musch - 3rd
Well, I was very impressed with the growth over the weekend. All of the girls learned what it was like to play Varsity and I think appreciated the hard work of conditioning they did the last few weeks.
RC Central 3-1
We beat RC Central 8-1. We had a few close matches after a fun 5 1/2 hour drive out to Rapid. We played very tentative tennis, seeming like we worried more about winning than just having fun and playing our game.
Mutschelknaus had a great come-from-behind victory over a very athletic Tianna Duda. They were both 8 graders playing at 4 singles. Hanna was down 5-1, and with some amazing coaching (hahaha), came back to win the bout 10-7.
Naasz had a very impressive 10-0 win over Douglas and Rubin was equally impressive in her 10-1 win.
